About us

We work at the intersection of law, conservation and technology.

Lawyers for Animal Protection in Africa is an African non-profit, registered in Kenya, working within the One Health–One Welfare framework.

We believe that the Law is an effective tool for advocacy.

Vision

A world where the law serves as a tool for animal welfare and conservation.

Mission

To use the law as an advocacy tool to advance animal welfare and conservation.

What we believe

  • We believe the law should work for animals. Our approach applies legal strategy to achieve positive change for animals and the environment.

  • Communities are the most powerful advocates for the environment, and they should be equipped with the practical legal tools so that their urgency can be translated into enforceable protection.

  • We recognise the interconnection between human health, animal health and the environment. Solutions must embrace this intersectionality through multidisciplinary effort at local and national levels.

Values

The values that govern our work.

  • 01Accountability
  • 02Collaboration
  • 03Innovation
  • 04Integrity
  • 05Sustainability

Our theory of change, in one sentence

When communities, enforcement agencies and policymakers are equipped to use the law — and when the courts are made to apply it — the systemic barriers to protecting animals and biodiversity in Africa come down.
